Restaurant Recipes of the Lake Michigan Region, featuring dishes by many four-star establishments

Braised Lamb Shanks
This Chicago institution has been family owned and operated since 1898. Classic Old World surroundings are matched with authentic German dishes and cold steins of Berghoff's own beer. Over the years the restaurant has expanded its menu to include specialties from most of Europe and America. Clientele can enjoy blackened swordfish, thin crust pizzas and pastas. But for those of us who know the difference between rouladen and sauerbraten--and are all too aware of the scarcity of first-class German cuisine--we raise our glasses to the Berghoff family and say "prost"!
